Brand is so important for MSPs… but it always gets forgotten!
I have been working in the industry for over 10 years now; and in that time have only ever really seen a small handful of Managed Service Providers operate their marketing with a distinct brand, message and USPs tailored to the market they’re trying to reach.
Often MSPs, like most businesses, will have a tendency to work with any & every type of client that walks through the door; and of course that’s absolutely fine, but not when it comes to getting your marketing message right.
In such a competitive industry, you need a stand-out brand, distilled message of what you do, who you do it for and why they should work with you because of the value you add to their business.
IT is largely IT, isn’t it? Irrespective of industry. Well, mostly. But a lot of prospects will want that “warm fuzzy blanket” feeling that only comes with partnering with a provider that they feel really gets their industry. Understands their legal compliance obligations, the type of software they use, their operating hours and which issues might be a P1 for them (but not usually in other businesses).
I’m not saying you must only focus on one industry or nice, not at all. There’s nothing wrong with creating four or five tailored pitches to the industries you know best; then drive that message forward through a planned mix of aggressive & passive marketing activity. It doesn’t have to cost the earth either.
If you can tailor your brand message & marketing activity accordingly, you’ll stand head & shoulders above your competitors diluted pitch.
Start applying some niche focus to your marketing & you’ll start to see the message resonate with your prospects and fill your pipeline with actively engaged sales opportunities that understand you, but more importantly, feel that you understand them.
